Southern Ferries

If you cross the channel from UK by one of the southern routes - ferry or le Shuttle we would strongly advise you to avoid routes via Paris. At peak times the traffic is horrendous and even off peak times can be quite busy and confusing. The route we now use takes us along the A16/A28 from Calais/Dunkerque then via Dreux to the west of Paris and then pick up the A10 south of Chartres and take all the signs for Bordeaux. From Bordeaux take the A62 towards Agen and Toulouse and come off at exit 6 for Aiguillon. From there turn left on to the D666 towards Villeneuve-sur-Lot and follow the directions given in "By Road".

Northern Ferries

We have previously travelled to France using Newcastle-Amsterdam and Hull-Zeebrugge, both of which offer a relaxed way to start your holiday with a nice meal and good night's sleep. If you choose one of these routes and need advice on travel plans please let us know.
